New Year Honours: Knighthood for adult education pioneer

A pioneer of grownup studying has been knighted within the New 12 months Honours for companies to training.

Prof Alan Tuckett, from the College of Wolverhampton, established Grownup Learners’ Week in 1992 and is a Unesco adviser on lifelong studying.

The ex-president of the Worldwide Council for Grownup Training mentioned he was “honoured and humbled”.

Wolverhampton vice chancellor Prof Geoff Layer mentioned his colleague was the “voice of grownup training”.

“Forty years after serving to to ascertain the very concept of the ‘grownup learner’ within the 1970s, at the moment he evokes the subsequent era of educators,” Prof Layer added.

Grownup Learners’ Week, now rebranded as Pageant of Studying, is held yearly in 55 nations.

Prof Sir Alan lives in Leicestershire.
