An overdue college library e book has lastly been returned – 120 years late.
The Microscope and its Revelations, by Dr William B Carpenter, was borrowed by former pupil Professor Arthur Boycott, who attended Hereford Cathedral Faculty between 1886 and 1894.
It was found by his granddaughter Alice Gillett.
The college has promised to waive any fines – which based mostly on the speed at Hereford Library of 17p a day, would have amounted to a staggering £7,446.
Mrs Gillett found the e book whereas she was sorting by means of a set of 6,000 books following the demise of her husband earlier this yr.
On discovering the HCS library stamp contained in the e book, Mrs Gillett, who lives close to Taunton, determined to return it.
“I am unable to think about how the varsity has managed with out it,” she stated.
The e book would have been of fine use to younger Boycott as he ultimately graduated with first-class honours in Pure Science and have become a distinguished naturalist and pathologist.
